Sections

What is a Section?

A section represents a unit of your story:

- A scene within a chapter
- Front matter (dedication, acknowledgments)
- Back matter (author bio, other books)

Sections can be nested to create a hierarchical structure.

  2. Enter a title
  3. Click Create

Using Keyboard Shortcut

Press Cmd/Ctrl+N to create a new section.

From the Context Menu

Right-click in the binder and select Add New Section.

Section Structure

Flat Structure

Sections appear as a simple list:

Hierarchical Structure

Nest scenes within chapters:

Chapter 1
└── Scene 1
└── Scene 2
Chapter 2
└── Scene 1

To nest a section:
1. Drag the section onto another section
2. It becomes a child of that section

  3. The section moves to Archives

Trashed sections can be restored from the Archives view.

Merging Sections

2. Select Merge with Next
3. Content from the next section appends to the current one
4. The second section is removed

Note: This action cannot be undone. Create a snapshot first if needed.

Moving Sections Between Books

  1. Right-click the section
  2. Select Move to > [Book Name]
  3. The section transfers to the selected book

Section Associations

Link story elements to sections:

Characters

  • Open the Section Details panel
  • Click Add Character
  • Select or create a character
  • The character is now associated with this section

Locations

  • Open the Section Details panel
  • Click Add Location
  • Select or create a location
  • The location is now associated with this section

These associations help track where characters and locations appear in your story.

POV Character

Assign a point-of-view character to each section:
1. Open the Section Details panel
2. In the POV section, select a character
3. The POV character displays in the editor footer

This helps track whose perspective each scene uses.

Tips for Section Management

  1. Use descriptive titles - Chapter 3 is less useful than The Escape
  2. Nest strategically - Group related scenes under chapter headings
  3. Use matter groups - Organize front/back matter separately
  4. Review with Verkado - Select multiple sections to check narrative flow
  5. Track POV - Maintain consistency in point of view
