Creating a Book

From the Books View

  1. Navigate to the Books view (Cmd/Ctrl+1)
  2. Click New Book or the + button
  3. Enter a title
  4. Click Create

The Books View

View Modes

Toggle between views using the buttons in the header:
- Grid View - Book cards in a grid layout
- List View - Books in a detailed list

Sorting Options

Sort your books by:
- Last Edited - Most recently edited first
- A-Z - Alphabetical order
- Pinned - Pinned books first

Searching

Use the search box to filter books by title.

Book Cards

Each book card displays:
- Title - The book's name
- Word Count - Total words across all sections
- Section Count - Number of sections
- Star Icon - Indicates if pinned
- Bundle Name - Shows bundle/series membership

Opening a Book

Click on a book card to open it in the editor. The binder shows the book's sections.

Book Details

Access book details from the inspector:
1. Open a book
2. Click the gear icon in the inspector rail
3. Edit book properties

Editable Properties

  • Title - Change the book's name
  • Description - Add a summary or notes
  • Status - Track progress (Draft, Revision, Complete)

Read-Only Stats

  • Word count
  • Section count
  • Created date
  • Last modified date

Pinning Books

Pin frequently-used books for quick access:
1. Right-click the book card
2. Select Pin / Unpin

Pinned books show a star icon and can be sorted to appear first.

Archiving Books

Archive books you're not actively working on:
1. Right-click the book card
2. Select Archive

Archived books move to the Archives view and don't appear in the main Books list.

Restoring Archived Books

  1. Go to Archives (Cmd/Ctrl+5)
  2. Find the archived book
  3. Click Restore

Grouping Books in Bundles

Add books to a bundle (series):
1. Create or open a bundle in the Bundles view
2. Add the book to the bundle
3. The book card shows the bundle name

Deleting Books

Warning: Deleting a book removes all its sections and content.

Currently, books can be archived but not permanently deleted through the UI. Archived books remain in your project and can be restored.

Book Statistics

View book statistics in the Book Details panel:
- Total Words - Sum of all section word counts
- Sections - Number of sections in the book
- Characters - Characters associated with sections
- Locations - Locations associated with sections

Best Practices

  1. Descriptive titles - Use clear, identifiable names
  2. Pin active projects - Quick access to current work
  3. Archive completed work - Keep your Books view uncluttered
  4. Use bundles - Group related books together
  5. Track status - Update status as you progress
