Terms of Service

The plain-language agreement for buying and using Verkilo. One purchase, yours to keep, your work stays your own.

Last updated: July 25, 2026

These terms cover your purchase and use of Verkilo, the desktop novel-writing application. By buying or using Verkilo, you agree to them. We’ve tried to keep them readable, but they are a real agreement, so please read them.

Your license

Verkilo is free to try for 30 days, with every feature available and no account required. When you decide to keep it, you pay once and receive a perpetual (“lifetime”), non-exclusive license to install and use the app for your own writing. There is no subscription, and your license does not expire. It is a household license: you may install and use the app on the devices used by you and the members of your household.

Payment, applicable sales tax and VAT, and delivery of your license key are handled by our Merchant of Record, Lemon Squeezy. After purchase you activate Verkilo once with the key emailed to you; from then on the app runs entirely offline and needs no further connection to us or to Lemon Squeezy.

Updates released for the version you purchased are included. Access to future major versions may be offered separately.

If we ever disappear

Verkilo is built to outlast us. On hardware you’ve already activated, the app keeps working indefinitely with no ongoing connection to any server — so your ability to use software you paid for does not depend on us, or on Lemon Squeezy, remaining in business.

What you may not do

You agree not to:

  • Resell, sublicense, rent, or redistribute the app or your license key.
  • Copy, decompile, reverse-engineer, or attempt to extract the source code, except where that restriction is prohibited by law.
  • Remove or alter any license, copyright, or ownership notices.
  • Share a single license beyond your own household.

You own your work

Everything you write in Verkilo, your manuscripts, characters, notes, and all other content, belongs entirely to you. We claim no ownership of it and no license to it. Because Verkilo is offline-first, your work stays on your own device, as described in our Privacy Policy. You are responsible for backing up your own files.

AI and agents

Verkilo does not ship an AI model of its own and does not generate your writing. Its AI-assisted features run only through an agent you connect and control. If you connect your own AI agent to your work, you are responsible for your use of that agent and for complying with its provider’s terms. We make no representation about the copyright status of anything produced with the help of third-party tools you choose to use.

Trial and refunds

Because Verkilo offers a 30-day free trial, you can evaluate every feature before you pay. Purchases are processed by Lemon Squeezy as our Merchant of Record, and refunds are handled under Lemon Squeezy’s refund policy — reach out and we’ll help you arrange one. We stand behind the app and want you to be satisfied with your purchase.

Warranty disclaimer

Verkilo is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We work hard to make Verkilo reliable, but we do not warrant that it will be error-free or uninterrupted.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Verkilo and its maker will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of the app. Because your files live on your own device, keeping backups is your responsibility. Our total liability for any claim relating to Verkilo will not exceed the amount you paid for it.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top of this page. Your continued use of Verkilo after an update means you accept the revised terms.
