Terms of Service

The plain-language agreement for buying and using Verkilo. One purchase, yours to keep, your work stays your own.

Last updated: February 18, 2025

These terms cover your purchase and use of Verkilo, the desktop novel-writing application. By buying or using Verkilo, you agree to them. We’ve tried to keep them readable, but they are a real agreement, so please read them.

Your license

When you buy Verkilo, you pay once and receive a perpetual, non-exclusive license to install and use the app for your own writing. There is no subscription, and your license does not expire. You may install it on the devices you personally use.

Updates released for the version you purchased are included. Access to future major versions may be offered separately.

What you may not do

You agree not to:

  • Resell, sublicense, rent, or redistribute the app or your license key.
  • Copy, decompile, reverse-engineer, or attempt to extract the source code, except where that restriction is prohibited by law.
  • Remove or alter any license, copyright, or ownership notices.
  • Share a single license in a way that exceeds your own personal use.

You own your work

Everything you write in Verkilo, your manuscripts, characters, notes, and all other content, belongs entirely to you. We claim no ownership of it and no license to it. Because Verkilo is offline-first, your work stays on your own device, as described in our Privacy Policy. You are responsible for backing up your own files.

AI and agents

Verkilo does not include built-in AI and does not generate your writing. If you connect your own AI agent to your work, you are responsible for your use of that agent and for complying with its provider’s terms. We make no representation about the copyright status of anything produced with the help of third-party tools you choose to use.

Refunds

If Verkilo isn’t right for you, our refund terms are described in our money-back guarantee. We stand behind the app and want you to be satisfied with your purchase.

Warranty disclaimer

Verkilo is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We work hard to make Verkilo reliable, but we do not warrant that it will be error-free or uninterrupted.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Verkilo and its maker will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of the app. Because your files live on your own device, keeping backups is your responsibility. Our total liability for any claim relating to Verkilo will not exceed the amount you paid for it.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top of this page. Your continued use of Verkilo after an update means you accept the revised terms.
