The revision release: see the manuscript you actually wrote.

Manuscript Reports in the product tour
  • Manuscript Reports. A new Reports page reads your whole book and shows you what’s on the page: the words you lean on and where they echo, clichés, sentence rhythm and variety, how much of the book is dialogue, readability, adverbs and possible passives, a pacing curve along the story, point-of-view balance, and where every character and place appears — or quietly vanishes. Twenty-three reports, each with a chart, a plain-English summary, and a click-through to the scene in question. Every figure is measured from your text, not generated — no AI involved, no internet required, nothing leaves your machine — and a full novel analyzes in under a second, automatically, the moment you open the page.
  • Your own rules, watched. Give Reports a house-style list — the words and phrases you’ve promised yourself to stop using — and every run counts them, down to the happy zero.
  • Your library on every computer. Point Settings at any shared folder — Dropbox, iCloud, even a USB stick — and your interior templates, label groups, keyword templates, and preferences (theme, fonts, your dictionary, and more) follow you to every machine. Manuscripts stay where you put them.
  • One file restores your setup. Settings export now carries everything — templates, preferences, your dictionary — so a new computer or a reinstall starts from a single file.

Verkilo 1.4

The round-trip release: your manuscript can now leave Verkilo and come back.

  • Work with your editor in Word. Export a book to DOCX, send it out, and import the edited copy — every tracked insertion and deletion becomes a reviewable change in the editor, labeled with your editor’s name, accepted or rejected one at a time. Word manuscripts also import as new books, chapters, formatting, and images intact.
  • The Gallery. Every image in your project in one place — searchable, taggable, and usable anywhere an image goes.
  • At home on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Images, fonts, exports, and menus behave the same on all three — including fixes for images not showing and common fonts failing PDF export on Windows.

Interior Design in the product tour
  • A spine sized from your real interior. Opening a cover, or changing its trim size, compiles the interior and takes its page count — rounded up to the even count a printer binds — instead of assuming 300 pages. Trim size, page count and paper stock are saved with the cover and restored when you reopen it, and exporting a print cover whose page count is still a guess asks you first. Groundwood joins white and cream as a paper choice.
  • A barcode Amazon accepts. KDP was rejecting covers whose barcode had been antialiased into gray seams and soft edges. The bars are drawn as single shapes and the ISBN box is snapped to pure black on white before conversion, so it scans — and the printed ISBN keeps the hyphenation you entered.
  • AI line edits read like an editor’s marks. Suggestions arrive inline as tracked changes you accept or reject one at a time, never a rewritten document — and a full pass costs about half what it did.
  • Undo follows your document. Undo belongs to the document now rather than the pane in front of you, so you can wander the binder and still step back through your changes.

Verkilo 1.2

  • Move your license to a new computer. About Verkilo can now deactivate this device: one click and a confirmation frees that computer’s seat, so the same key activates somewhere else. The seat is released only after the activation server answers, so a dropped connection never costs you one.

Spelling & Grammar in the product tour
  • Bundles. A whole series exports as one real omnibus ebook with its own title, ISBN, and copyright.
  • Proofing. Spelling, grammar, and style checking built in, entirely on-device.
  • Import from Scrivener. A Scrivener project becomes a new book — characters and places included — with a full preview before anything is written.
  • Print files publishers accept. Exported interiors and covers meet IngramSpark’s requirements and KDP’s recommendations out of the box, and every file is checked before it’s written — you’re told the page and the problem now, not by a printer’s rejection days later.
  • Typographic quotes. Straight quotes and apostrophes are typeset as the curly ones a printed book expects.
  • Keyboard shortcuts that work while you type on Windows, and Linux builds that run on current distributions.
  • Details beside the scene and anchored comments rounded out the story-bible workflow.
