Fact sheet, screenshots, logos, review copies — everything you need to write about Verkilo, and a human to answer questions.
Writing about Verkilo? The facts and files are below. If you need anything that isn’t here — a quote, a specific screenshot, a straight answer about what the app does and doesn’t do — email us and you’ll reach the developer, not a PR firm.
Fact sheet
- What it is: A desktop writing app for authors working on a series — manuscripts, characters, locations, and story details across every book, in one place.
- Price: $128, one time. No subscription. One purchase covers all platforms and your personal devices.
- Trial: 30 days of the full app — no credit card, no email, no account.
- Platforms: Windows 10/11, macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), and Linux (.deb and AppImage).
- Your data: Projects are files on your computer. Verkilo works completely offline, with no cloud account and no login.
- Exports: EPUB, PDF, DOCX, HTML, and Markdown.
- AI: Verkilo ships none — no model, no assistant, no generate button. Writers can connect their own agent for continuity checks and line-editing notes; it never writes prose. The full position is at /the-author-is-human/.
- Checkout: Lemon Squeezy.
- Maker: Ben Wilson — independent author of seven novels and a software developer since 1999. Verkilo is the tool he writes his own books in.
Boilerplate
Verkilo is a desktop writing app for fiction authors, built around the way a series actually gets written. One program covers the manuscript work: drafting, and keeping characters, locations, and story details straight across every book. It also covers the production work: print interiors and store-ready ebook files, with no separate design software.
Verkilo ships no AI. There is no model inside it and no generate button. Writers who want editorial help connect their own, whether that’s a model running on their own machine or a key for a provider they already trust, and get continuity checks and line-editing notes; it never writes prose. Manuscripts are files on the author’s computer, not records in someone’s cloud, and nothing is sent anywhere except where the writer points it. None of it sits behind a monthly plan. Verkilo is a one-time purchase.
Find us at events
At our table we demonstrate the app on real manuscripts: auditing a series for continuity slips, running a line-editing pass with a local model, and formatting a print interior while you watch.
