Verkilo 1.8

The Writing Record: how your book got written, kept on your machine, ready when someone asks.

  • Every session, kept. Verkilo now records each writing session in the background: when it started, how long it ran, how many saves, which scenes you touched. Writing History gains a Sessions view beside Daily, Weekly and Monthly; click a day on the heatmap to see that day’s sessions. When a session ends, the scenes it changed get a version snapshot, so Version History reads like a diary of the draft.
  • Where every word came from. Each save records whether its words were typed, pasted, accepted from an AI line edit, fixed by an AI copyedit, written by an agent you connected, imported, or restored from a version. AI line edits are shown as words in and words out, and AI spelling and grammar fixes are counted apart as words touched, so a copyedit never reads as co-authorship. Words an agent writes over the local API are attributed to the agent, not to you.
  • A record you can hand over. Export the Writing Record as a PDF or JSON from Writing History: totals by origin, every session, first and last write per chapter, every AI operation and whether you accepted it, every manual adjustment shown as an adjustment, and a hash chain the app can recompute to check that no closed session was altered afterwards. It stores counts, times and hashes, never your text or keystrokes, and it never leaves your computer until you export it.
  • A nudge on the copyright page. If the record lists AI operations and no AI disclosure is set, the copyright tab says so and offers the standard wording in one click.
  • Titles that stay tellable apart. Long titles and paths now shorten in the middle instead of at the end, the way Finder shortens a filename, so “Chapter 12: The Long Road” and “Chapter 12: The Long Night” never collapse into the same “Chapter 12: The Lo…”. Binder, breadcrumbs, outliner, scene lists, book cards, recent projects, gallery names, all of it.
